ACCOUNTANT
St. Paul Catholic Parish

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Accountant to support the daily financial activity of St. Paul Catholic Parish (includes church and school).  This position reports directly to the Director of Operations of St. Paul Catholic Parish and is expected to work collaboratively with the Diocese, other pastorates and schools with a focus on building efficiency and effectiveness across the diocese.

Essential Duties:
 

• Participate in the implementation of new accounting software.
• Ensure correct and comprehensive financial records and activities including:

1. Processing payables, receivables, purchase orders and checks.
2. May process payroll through payroll vendor and prepare journal entries for general ledger posting.
3. Review financial transactions for proper general ledger account numbers and dimensions.
4. Support grant applications and reporting.

• Assist in the preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly and/or annual financial reports.
• Assist with the development of the annual budget and budgeting process.
• Ensure proper recording of contractor information in accounting system and produce 1099’s.
• Review and recognize liability accounts.
• Comply with proper GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
• Coordinate and assist Diocesan reviewers with their reviews.

• Ability to maintain clear, accurate records and prepare timely reports.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.  Understanding of computer software necessary to complete the job duties and the ability to learn new programs/processes.
• Self-directed with attention to detail and ability to organize effectively.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
• Possess good people and listening skills.
• Ability to keep confidentiality
• Ability to make decisions
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Skills in using all types of office equipment.
• Able to pass and keep Diocesan child safety protocols.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or related area.
• Minimum 1 year of accounting experience.
• Proficiency in accounting skills necessary.
• Experience working with parishes, schools or nonprofits preferred.
• Experience in managing projects on a day-to-day basis.
